I’m excited to share a big visual update — Holly has finished the Boba Mahjong playmat artwork! 🎉
Thanks to your feedback over the past week, Holly refined the colors, details, and overall balance, and the final result is absolutely adorable.

The playmat features a whimsical boba café scene, complete with charming characters, lush greenery, and cozy storefront vibes. It’s printed on 10x9" neoprene with stitched edges, so it feels great, sits flat, and holds up beautifully over time.

🀄 Stretch Goal Change: Solo Rules Added!
Several of you asked if the solo mode could be officially included in the game. We love that idea, so we’re making it a stretch goal! Solo mode started as a community request, and now it can become an official part of the game you helped build. ❤️
Lower Stretch Goal Target
We also heard concerns about funding limitations and pacing. To accommodate the current campaign experience, we’ve lowered the stretch goal amount so it’s easier to achieve together.
This gives us a realistic path forward while still adding meaningful value to the game.

Solo Rules for Boba Mahjong!

Happy Friday, Everyone!
Someone on BoardGameGeek asked if Boba Mahjong could be played solo, and I thought, why not give it a try? 😄 Anyway, I believe this solo version captures the heart of Boba Mahjong’s set-collection puzzle and adds a tight, thoughtful, and replayable challenge where every decision matters.
Please note: these rules are not currently planned to be included in the printed rulebook, but if you enjoy them, let me know. Community feedback matters a lot!
🀄 COMPONENTS
Pocket Edition Use:
- Four suits of 0 to 7
- Six topping cards: Caramel, Egg Pudding, Green Bean, Mint Leaves, Rainbow Jelly, Red Bean
Grande Edition Use:
- Five suits of 0 to 6
- Six topping cards: Caramel, Egg Pudding, Green Bean, Mint Leaves, Rainbow Jelly, Red Bean
🧋 SETUP
- Shuffle all cards then randomly remove cards:

Pocket Edition: remove 2 cards

Grande Edition: remove 5 cards
Play using the rules as if you are playing a two-player game.
🥤 TURN
Play as if you are in a two-player game, with one exception: When you activate a topping power while creating a topping set, the topping card you used is removed from the game. This adds tension and resource pressure. Use wisely!
🎯 GAME END
Ends the same way as the base game.
🧮 SCORING
Scoring works normally, with one twist: If you end the game with three topping cards in your scoring area, you can score ALL of your score cards (instead of selecting six). This rewards players who lean into the topping strategy, but it can be risky!
